CHICHA LIBRE AT SOB'S, BARBES AND CINCO DE MAYO.

We're back from a crazy South American tour which took us to Peru, holy land of Chicha, to Sao Paulo, where we played in front in 300,000 (we didn't count... ) and Recife, where we shared the stage with Arnaldo Antunes - and an amazing Argentinean tour where audiences apparently went through the trouble of memorizing our music for the sheer pleasure of singing along. We can't wait to get back to Buenos Aires. Our first show since Brazil, appropriately enough, is tomorrow night at Sounds of Brazil.

- CHICHA LIBRE & DJ REAGANOMICS at SOB's , saturday April 30th, midnight.

And we will celebrate CINCO DE MAYO at LITTLEFIELD right by the Gowanus. While we are not technically a Mexican band per we do boast French and Mexican band members, which makes us perfect candidates to reenact the battle of Puebla in which Mexicans routed the French army on a certain cinq mai. Banda de los Muertos will play at 9pm. Do not miss them. Chicha Libre will follow at 10:30pm

Least not last, we will resume our Mondays at Barbes on May 2d.

Should that not enough, you can always see us in Switzerland on Memorial Day Weekend.

Come wish us luck at Barbès tonight.

We couldn't be more excited. Chicha Libre's first bona fide South Amercian tour will take us first to Lima, where it all started, and then Buenos Aires, La Plata, Cordoba, Sau Paulo and Recife.

Chicha Libre at Joe's Pub tomorrow Thursday

CHICHA LIBRE AT JOE'S PUB TOMORROW NIGHT - THURSDAY 01/06. 9:30PM

A quick reminder that Chicha libre will kick off the new year at Joe's Pub with its habitual mix of Peruvian Cumbia, 1850's and 1970's psychedelia and other non sequiturs
2010 was a great chicha year - starting with an appearance on the Simpsons' anniversary special and followed by two European tours and many mondays at barbès.
2011 looks even more exciting with our first South American tour, a lot more European dates, more mondays at barbès, and who knows, maybe a few American dates.
Joe's Pub remains NYC's best venue and we are thrilled to be back. We would love to see you there...

We will also be playing a half hour set at the Barbès Records showcase at Drom this Saturday, with our friends Les Chauds Lapins, Pierre de Gaillande, Hazmat Modine and Brooklyn Qawwali Party.

And should you find yourself in Colombia this month, we will be playing in Bogota, at Festival Centro on January 22d.

And of course, every Monday at Barbès.

Featuring Chicha Libre plus djs Sonido Chichadelico, Olivier Conan, Das Booty of Electric Cowbell and more

Three years after the release of The Roots of Chicha compilation, which went on to become a cult classic, here comes the long awaited second volume. This installment is not so much a sequel as an attempt to rectify some of the biases and inaccuracies of the first volume. Volume two focuses more on the urban aspect of the music and less on the Amazonian side. It highlights some lesser-known bands, and it also broadens its scope to include some of the early Cuban-influenced groups who would play such a crucial role in the elaboration of the chicha sound, as well as some of the later bands who play in the more Andean style that came to be referred to as chicha. More roots. More chicha

At hand, to help celebrate, Chicha Libre will play a live set of its own take on the genre (10:00PM) and various DJs will dig deep into their own chicha collection.

Chicha Libre Is Back At Barbès Every Monday.

Starting Monday 09/06. 9:30pm

Back to work, on Labor Day no less, after some time off and a couple of European shows - including a memorable Berlin show backing up Ranil - one of the legendary chichero from the Amazonian city of Iquitos. His first show outside of Peru. Our first show with him but probably not our last.

On Monday the 6th, our friend Damian Quiñones will be screening some classic salsa films
On Monday the 13th, DJ Chichadelico will be spinning some classic Peruvian Cumbia starting at 8pm and in between sets. Don't miss it.

CHICHA LIBRE SUMMER DATES

Chicha Libre will be traveling this summer. We're very excited that we will get to actually back up the legenday Ranil, from Iquitos, in Berlin, for this first show ever outside of Peru. And play with the Orcherstre Polyrythmique de Cotonou in Quebec - and still a little puzzled that we will be playing with Red Blondead in Ottawa.
Also, should your interest in Chicha go beyond our own free brand, look out for the Roots of Chicha 2 compilation to be released early October by barbes in the US and Crammed Disc in Europe.
